Distinctive qualities of Mixed Lacrosse

  • There are two teams, with twelve players on either team, 6 of either gender.
  • A 5 second rule is used. When carrying the ball, a player must release it before the fifth count. A player is not allowed to intentionally drop the ball and pick it up again in order to re-start the 5 second rule.
  • There are no official boundaries but the umpire can stop play and bring a player back onto the pitch if he/she runs too far.
  • When the whistle goes, all players must stand still.
  • If the ball comes off any part of a player’s body and acts as an advantage to them, the ball is given to the opposing team.
